Elisabeth Hasselbecks return to the View had fans raving on Wednesday. The former co-host, who shared a seat at the Hot Topics table for ten years before stepping down in 2013, reintroduced herself as a guest on todays episode, where she was at the forefront of a heated debate about abortion, religion, and politics.
The majority of the viewers balked at her return to the show before she even opened her mouth. And when she did begin to comment, her actions sparked outrage.
Two minutes in, one writes, I remember why I was so enthused when Elisabeth Hasselbeck left #TheView.
If #TheView feels that hiring these kinds of conservatives is beneficial to the show's credibility, please contact us. All this creates is drama and toxicity. This is a morning show, and we should be able to have intelligent deep and also light hearted FACTUAL conversations!
Elizabeth has chosen to watch a rerun of Price is Right rather than listen to her.#theview, as many others do.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a weirdo. That slurchy, whiny voice, and her far-right-leaning ways Ugh! I'd have preferred to see Rosie O'Donnell#TheView on twitter.com/vhJFQDdC5C.
Others criticized Hasselbeck's religious positions, including her assertion that abortion is wrong under the laws of Christianity.
Another claimed that Hasselbeck was preaching to the co-hosts and writing; Christians like her push people away from Christ. #TheView #TheViewABC.
Oh boy. With Hasselbeck on #TheView the show has evolved into The 700 Club.
Elizabeth Hasselbeck is my heart of contention. She is my mother. America was built on freedom of religion. Don't force your religion on anyone. Sunny has lost respect.
Some viewers expressed support for Hasselbeck's return to the panel, despite her widespread dislike. Some even demanded that she receive a permanent spot on The Viewagain, which has apparently been given to Alyssa Farah Griffin, but will be officially announced tomorrow.
Elisabeth is the spark that this table has needed, and the fact that we would be stuck with A*yssa and her watered-down conservative views will be a huge disservice to this show #theview, according to one viewer.
I know I'm in the minority and will be fired for saying this, but the view's conservative voice should be Elisabeth Hasselbeck again. They should let her do whatever she wants. Bring the OG back. Excited for Alyssa, but there will never be that spark with debates.
I'm not going to lie. I've kind of missed her. #TheView
