Let's be clear about one thing: Spirit Halloween is a solid brand, and we have no concerns with it or desire to criticize its excellent work in providing reasonably priced Halloween accessories (to mention the remarkable efforts made in revitalizing Americas underused strip malls).

We were a little surprised when we first learned that a film based on Spirit Halloween stores was in the works a few months ago. Movies that are based on toys usually have characters and props. This film is set in a retail setting.

After seeing the Spirit Halloween: The Movie teaser, we were prepared to refute our beliefs. It essentially states that the film is based on a store rather than a Halloween-themed event. To be more precise, it appears to be a film because permission was obtained to film inside a real abandoned Toys R Us.

Three middle-school friends who haven't eaten trick-or-treating dare to spend the night inside the store Halloween night locked locked inside the store. But they soon discover that an angry evil spirit has haunted the creepy animatronic animals.

In order to survive the night and avoid becoming possessed, the children embark on a frightening and scary adventure.
