Samurai Maiden, a new multiplatform game, has been announced by D3Publisher and developer Shade. The game's descriptor is a samurai action game, but on closer inspection there's a little more to it.

Here's how the setup worked out.

Tsumugi Tamaori, a high school student who falls asleep during history class and wakes up back in time, plays Nobunaga Oda, likely sometime between the mid and late 1500s.

The pair enters the Honnoji Temple and discovers it burning and doubles as a gateway to the underworld. It's probably not the best spot to be, considering that, historically, that was an assassination attempt on Nobunaga.

MetaBeat 2022 is coming to an end.

On October 3-4, MetaBeat will bring together metaverse thought leaders to discuss how metaverse technology might transform the way all industries communicate and conduct business.

Nobunaga grants Tsumugi, a skilled sword fighter, a sword to assist in putting a stop to the sudden calamity. The hero, now equipped, is ready to go into the underworld to combat zombies and other foes.

If Samurai Maiden was to be an interesting isekai story, I think it might be a bit of a Drifters feel.

Tsumugi meets three ninjas at the Temple, and they decide to travel with Tsumugi into the underworld. Iyo is a tool-using ninja, Hagane is a robot ninja, and Komimi is a genius with a special ability.

During the game players will interact with the Gokage System, which combines Tsumugis sword and the ninja techniques together. Players may select which combinations will work best for any given situation. Beyond that, the group will have unlockable, even stronger special abilities.

Its a complete isekai story.

Do you have those additional abilities? They may be used by smooching the ninjas.

Its not just an isekai, it's also a tribute to a slew of other tropes. There are loads of games, past and present, that feature a fish out of water. Here we have a full-on pseudo-harem on the go, a Dynasty Warriors style slash em up with a romantic subplot.

Shade Inc. took a look at OneeChanbara and Senran Kagura and thought a mix of the two might be something extraordinary.

Samurai Maiden is at the very least catching my interest. Fortunately Ill be able to play it practically anywhere. It will be available on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam this winter.
