Tyler Perry is well-known as one of Hollywood's most generous people. He even went the extra mile for paying an iconic actress a lot for one day's work on a set.
While discussing his role as a producer and actor on AARPs The Magazine, he mentioned that he once paid Cicely Tyson $1 million for a days' worth of work on his 2007 film Why Did I Get Married? Perry really wanted to demonstrate to her the respect he has earned over the decades in the industry.
This lady had achieved so much greatness, but she wasn't well compensated for it; you know, she earned $6,000 for Sounder? I wanted to make sure she knew that there were others who valued her.
Tyson, a 52-year-old Madea actor, said he loved working with him. The two worked together on several projects, from Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005) to Madeas Family Reunion (2006) and Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010).
Perry took to Instagram to pay respects to the actress after she passed away in 2021.
While she remembers me in the next, my heart breaks in one beat.
To think that she lived for 96 years and that I was a part of the last 16 brings me great pleasure. She named me son. Today your son mourns your loss and will miss our long conversations, your belly laughs, and your very presence.
Always so regal, always so classy, always a lady, always a queen. I would always ask, How are you? and you would reply, I'm still here. He must have something he wants me to do, and I'm sure you've accomplished all you've ever set yourself to do.
Tyler Perry can make headlines when he accuses the Hollywood machine of boycotting him. That being said, he still has a large following and is enormously valuable to a culture he continues to cultivate.
