Fans are preparing for what should be another iconic MCU villain fighting the team as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 prepares for its long-awaited release next summer.
Chukwudi Iwuji, who played Ronan the Accuser in DC's Peacemaker, will take his talents to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Kurt Russell's Ego the Living Planet will follow Lee Pace's Ronan the Accuser (Vol. 1) and Kurt Russell's Ego the Living Planet (Vol. 2), aiming to become the most terrifying entity that the MCU's space cheats have ever encountered.
For quite a long time, rumors had circulated about the High Evolutionary being the main antagonist in Guardians 3, and Gunn and his crew are now working on a final script for post-production. As fans saw the film's first trailer at Comic-Con, Iwuji's character was one of the most noteworthy highlights.
Iwuji talked about his time at Comic-Con as well as what's to follow with his incredible new villain.
An Epic Main Villain is teased by a Guardians 3 actor.
Chukwudi Iwuji, star of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, gave an update on his new role as Marvel Studios' High Evolutionary.
When asked about his costume and character, Iwuji described him as "narcissistic" and "sociopathic," while simultaneously bringing a "Shakespearean" element to his personality. He also remembered how wearing it enhanced his performance:
"Shady isn't going to touch anything. He is narcissistic, sociopathic, and very charming. I couldn't think of a better character to join the MCU with." "It's a shame that he didn't wear that outfit, because he's very different from what he's seen in the movies."
Iwuji explained that the villain has "been around for eons" and that he has connections to a number of other characters in this upcoming sequel. Although he's most related to Rocket Raccoon, Iwuji teased that he will have an impact on much more than just Rocket:
"Well, the High Evolutionary, who has been around for eons, is actually connected to a hell of a lot of the characters in this movie Ive been seeing a lot of talk about it being about Rocket specifically. But really, he's connected to a lot of people, so lets just say that he affects a lot of peoples lives in a somewhat less pleasant way."
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, he looked back to his first time seeing the original Guardians of the Galaxy"in Times Square as a fan," not expecting to ever be a part of the universe himself:
Im still reeling from the moment I saw this film in Times Square as a fan. And, you know, that's the reality of it. I saw the trailer backstage before I went on and im watching this thing and just there's still something somewhat strange about the fact that were part of it, whether it was this or Suicide Squad. That thing I'm not just observing now as an audience member, but I'm still processing the experience.
High Evolutionary Ready to Destroy the Guardians
While the Guardians have certainly faced their fair share of nasty villains, none of them will match the High Evolutionary's skill set.
Chukwudi Iwuji had the opportunity to give this character a different kind of intensity, who was the main motivator behind Rocket's torturous creation in the comics, according to everyone involved, and this should give this villain a unique level of terror upon his debut.
The majority of the High Evolutionary's story will remain a secret until this film makes its final appearance for this iteration of the Guardians, especially since this film will make the last appearance for the Guardians. However, considering everything that's already been said, Iwuji has a fantastic opportunity to make his mark among the Marvel Cinematic Universe's top antagonists.
On May 5, 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released in cinemas.
