Nadhim Zahawi, a British politician of Kurdish ancestry, was born in Iraq and has been the Chancellor of the Exchequer since 5 July 2022. He has been the Conservative Party's Member of Parliament (MP) for Stratford-on-Avon since 2010.
From 2021 to 2022, he was Secretary of State for Education in the Second Johnson Ministry, and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment from 2020 to 2021.
Nadhim Zahawi's Early Life
Nadhim Zahawi was born in Baghdad, Iraq, to a Kurdish family. During Saddam Hussein's early days in power, he and his family escaped to the United Kingdom when he was eleven years old.
Balshore Investments' Nadhim Zahawi's father, Hareth, is an entrepreneur and director. Zahawi attended Holland Park School, Ibstock Place School, Kings College School, a private school in Wimbledon, London, and then University College London, where he obtained a bachelors degree in chemical engineering.

Stephan Shakespeare, a former Jeffrey Archer spokesperson, and Zahawi co-founded YouGov in 2000. Zahawi served as CEO of YouGov from 2005 to 2010.
Despite being one of the two major founders of YouGov, Zahawi received no founding shares in the company in 2022.
Instead, he made arrangements for the initial shareholders that would have otherwise gone to him to go to a Gibraltar company owned by an offshore trust that has parental authority.
Zahawi claims that this was done to avoid taxes. Dan Neidle, a tax attorney, believes that one of Zahawis' denials of tax evasion was based on a falsehood.
He has given instructions to libel attorneys to request a withdrawal of such allegations.
Concerns about financial and commercial activity
Zahawi joined the board of non-executive directors at SThree, a specialist staffing company, in 2008, with a monthly salary of 2,917.
Although he resigned from the position in October 2017, he continued to hold more over 70,000 in company stock until April 2021.
Nadhim Zahawi used Berkford Investments Limited, a mortgage company with offices in Gibraltar, a low-tax British overseas territory, to purchase his constituent property, the Oakland riding stables estate, which was valued at 875,000, near Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, in November 2013.
Berkford Investments Limited is managed by T&T Management Services Limited.
Zahawi said in response to the news item: I did pay stamp duty on my Tysoe house and all of my other real estate purchases.
I support the current government's budgets, especially the 2012 one. I used a Gibraltar loan to purchase my Tysoe house.
To assume that this fact or the details associated with it are in any way hidden because they are fully disclosed on the Land Registry is factually incorrect.
Moreover, to suggest that I am using an offshore account in any way to lessen my tax liability is utterly false. In 2015, he worked as a part-time chief strategy officer at Gulf Keystone Petroleum, an oil and gas exploration and production company.
Zahawi was paid 1.3 million by the firm between 2015 and 2018. He was also considered the second-highest-paid MP in the United Kingdom as of 2017.
Zahawi had spent 25 million on London real estate, both for personal and professional use, according to The Guardian.
Zahawi responded, saying, "My constituency job is my first priority, above anything else," and I would never, and will never, let anything stand in my way.
According to rumors, Zahawi or his wife held 100 million worth of property, including a factory in London, a Warwickshire farm with stables, and a residence in Dubai.
