When Does Spider-Man 4 Fit Into MCU Phase 6?

When Does Spider-Man 4 Fit Into MCU Phase 6? ...

In the final scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, viewers see Spider-Man in a brand new red and blue suit soaring through the streets of New York City, and, as the script declares, "Peter Parker is no longer, but Spider-Man continues..."

The next Spider-Man film will give the character a fresh start, but who, where, and when will this happen?

Will Tom Holland reprise his role as Spider-Man?

Holland was unexpectedly quiet about returning to the character after the release of No Way Home. Holland praised the conclusion of his trilogy and said, "Part of me like it's the perfect time to jump off the building and look out into the sunset."

Holland has appeared in six different films (seven by countingVenom: Let There Be Carnage) as everyone's favorite webhead, and there's a good possibility he does feel like he's given all he has and wants to move on.

After news broke that he was leaving Far From Home, Holland stated how much he loves playing the character and even played a key role in reinforcing Peter Parker in the MCU. In 2019, Holland reportedly called then-Disney CEO Bob Iger in hopes to reinvigorate Spider-Man in the MCU.

When Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios reached a second two-picture agreement (one for Spider-Man, one for Holland, and one for the MCU), it appeared that Spider-Man's place in the franchise was in good hands.

Fast-forward to Summer 2022, and there is no official update on a Spider-Man 4 film; there is no news whether or not the two studios have reached an additional character-sharing agreement.

Holland is now a member of the MCU, has played in many of the franchise's biggest films, is a rising film star, and is likely to sign a massive new contract in May. According to Sharon chairman Tom Rothman, the "whole group" will return from a fourth Holland-led film.

Jeff Sneider of The Ankler wrote earlier this summer, "While plans for another Spidey trilogy with Tom Holland are underway, I dont believe he has actually signed a contract yet," so those plans remain unofficial for the time being."He continued by saying that he's "sure that further Spidey adventures with Holland are a top priority for Rothman & Co."

Andrew Garfield and The Amazing Spider-Man franchise were dropped by Sony in order to incorporate the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which would produce better results than its executives could have imagined - two back-to-back billion-dollar grossing films, and the discovery of star Tom Holland, who would lead their next Uncharted films.

If Holland did not sign for a multi-picture contract playing Peter Parker for years to come, what role would Spider-Man 4 play in the Marvel Universe?

When Will Spider-Man 4 Be Released?

During San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel CCO Kevin Feige stood up on stage and presented the MCU's Phase 5 but also teased Phase 6 and the Multiverse Saga's conclusion.

Despite all of the excitement, Spider-Man was absent, unless briefly in a post-panel interview.

This isn't a sign of concern, although Spidey is absent. When Sony and Disney re-negotiated their new No Way Home arrangement, the Marvel Cinematic Universe quickly altered its minds.

No Way Home was initially scheduled for July 16, 2021, then November 5, 2021, and thus Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was moved from that same date in November to March 25, 2022. Thor: Love and Thunder was also changed from February 18, 2022.

All of these modifications were postponed, but it still demonstrated that Marvel Studios is willing to adapt for a Spider-Man solo film.

Phase 5 of Release Option 1

Since 2012, Sony Pictures has been punctual with its Spider-Man films. Spider-Man has appeared on screen at least once every two years.

The Homecoming trilogy was spread over only five years in most recent memory. If the studio wanted to keep going along this pace, that would mean a new live-actionSpider-Manfilm would be released in late 2023.

This appears unlikely given the contractual situations and the fact that this next film would likely start a new trilogy.

Here's the current MCU film schedule for Phase 5:

Despite the summer season already being packed, Sony Pictures might be eyeing a release date for Summer 2024. This would be roughly two and a half years after No Way Homeand return the character to a season he has often been released during.

Marvel and Disney would make another change in release dates, something that has become common since the epidemic began in early 2020.

Spider-Man 4in theory may be extended to mid-June 2024, with a possible rescheduled run from the Thunderbolts until August or September, finishing phase 5.

If Holland's fourth Spidey film doesn't arrive by then, he'll be sent to Phase 6.

Phase 6 of Release Option 2

The possibility of a release date in June 2024 would have a domino effect on Marvel's sixth phase.

Here's the current MCU film schedule for Phase 6:

  • Fantastic Four-November 8, 2024
  • Avengers: The Kang Dynasty-May 2, 2025
  • Avengers: Secret Wars-November 7, 2025

In theory, this might still work. Phase 4 filmsCaptain America: New World Order on May 3, 2024, (hypothetical) Spider-Man 4arriving onJune 14, 2024, Thunderbolts onSeptember 6, 2024, then starting Phase 6with Fantastic Four on November 8, 2024.

Sony is seeking a different December release date, three years after the tremendous success of No Way Home. Avatar 3 is scheduled to be released on December 20th, 2024, but Sony may still place Spider-Man 4 two weeks earlier, on December 6, 2024. The MCU could either move the Fantastic Four up to October or September or postpone their release until the Spring before The Kang Dynasty.

The Phase 6 schedule was mostly fill-in-the-blank, with eight empty time slots for future projects. Two of those time slots were allocated to Summer 2025, in between the two Avengers films. July 2025 might be a key placement for Spider-Man 4, capturing the spirit of The Kang Dynasty and continuing the intrigue going into Secret Wars.

Captain Marvel was released in the middle of Phase 3'sAvengers films andledinto Endgame, and it grossed over $1 billion, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and fans.

This might be another smart move between Sony and Marvel, especially if Spidey is in both films, as the character's arc overlaps with a solo adventure.

If a deal with Holland, a direction for a new trilogy, and an agreement between the two studios are far further away than fans would expect, the final possibility is.

This time, there isn't a new Avatar juggernaut taking over the month of December, which might launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe in its next saga.

The possibilities for Spider-Man 4 are endless, as far as I know. All indications suggest that Sony Pictures wants Holland to return to the next trilogy, and history shows that Marvel Studios will willing to change its plans to make room for everyone's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
