Rapper Mystikal is charged with rape again, but this time without bond ...

Rapper Mystikal was sentenced to 18 months in prison in Louisiana on Monday, accused of rape for more than a year after authorities dismissed charges that he had been charged in a different area of the state.

According to Sheriff Bobby Webre of Ascension Parish just outside Baton Rouge, Michael Mystikal Tyler was arrested on rape and domestic abuse charges.

According to a sheriffs office inmate search, 51-year-old hip-hop legend is being held without bond on ten charges.

Attorney Joel Pearce of Shreveport, who represented the rapper in the earlier case, said he believes bond will be discussed at a hearing in Ascension Parish on Tuesday.

Im expecting it to be a substantial bond, he said.

Pearce said he has not been retained for the Tylers current case, but they are scheduled to meet Wednesday or Thursday to discuss the case. He said he will make a statement when the time comes.

Pearce represented the rapper on charges brought in 2017 against him for raping and kidnapping at a Shreveport casino in 2016. Prosecutors dropped those rape and kidnapping charges in December 2020 when new evidence was presented to a grand jury but it did not result in a new indictment.

Shreveport is located about 200 miles (320 kilometers) northwest of Ascension Parish.

Deputies were dispatched to a hospital shortly before midnight Sunday to investigate a sexual assault and interviewed the victim, who had minor injuries.

According to a statement, Michael Mystikal Tyler was identified as a suspect in a further investigation.

The new charges include rape, simple robbery, false imprisonment, simple criminal damage to property, and drug possession, including the use of amphetamines. The prosecution may ask for the death penalty or not.

Tyler admitted to sexual battery in 2003 and was sentenced to six years in prison.

In April 2021, he told The Associated Press that his past put him in a terrible fraternity, but he was willing to go on.

Shake (It Fast), Mystikals' 2000 hit, ranked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, and his 2000 album Lets Get Ready was multiplatinum.
