Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Is Buying Will Smith's Apologies To Chris Rock As Sincere and Honest ...

Will Smith caused a stir when he punched Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards earlier this year. Chris Rock did not directly respond to the actors' apologies, though. NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar believed him when Smith apologized for punching the comedian at the Academy Awards.

Abdul-Jabbar stated in a recent message that he does not believe Smith is only attempting to improve his reputation. He even claimed that Smith's most recent apologies were genuine and honest.

There is no part of me that believes that that is the appropriate way to deal with disrespect or insults at that time. Im going to look at his words and accept that they are genuine and honest. Im going to believe that after a long period of soul-searching, family rebuilding, and moral prioritizing, he was prepared to face a shocked and disapproving worldone.

Smith objected to a joke Rock made during his performance about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. He went on stage and hit Rock. After leaving his seat, Smith won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance as King Richard.

The 53-year-old was immediately chastised, and Abdul-Jabbar was one of the critics. For ten years, Smith was prohibited from attending any of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences official ceremonies, including the Oscars. He was also involved in projects that were put on a permanent pause.
