Thomas Lemar was offered to Arsenal and Everton this summer, but he is now staying with Atletico Madrid.

For Arsenal supporters, that name might ring a bell.

Back in 2017, Arsene Wenger made a club-record 92 million bid for Lemar, who was playing for Monaco at the time the 72-year-old even admitted that he made the offer.

The Frenchman stated: He decided to stay at Monaco. Did we make a 92 million offer? Yes. Will we make a second offer?

The France international moved to Madrid in a 52.7 million bid, where things haven't exactly gone to plan under Diego Simeone.

Lemar has scored only nine goals in 127 games for Atletico Madrid, while also providing 17 assists.

LEquipe believe the 26-year-old was placed on the transfer list at the Wanda Metropolitano, with Arsenal and Everton both offered the chance to sign him as Simeone attempted to sell him.

Lemar's fate ended in a deadlock, and he is now set to sign a new four-year deal in Spain, which would pay him 50% of his current 106,000-a-week salary. Were sure hell we would be able to deal with it.

Last season, the World Cup winner made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

Both the Gunners and the Toffees agreed to decline Lemars' services.

The Frenchman hardly appeared to be threatening in an attack for years, and his Madrid defeat has been nothing short of horrific.

During their time at Monaco, Lemar looked set to reach the top of football, but their careers could not have been more different.

Therefore, Mikel Arteta or Frank Lampard would have taken a risk signing him, especially on the basis of his earnings.

Lemar will be able to rebuild his career on track, but Arsenal and Everton both agreed to leave him in Spain.
