Despite rumors that Greys Anatomy might be coming to an end with Season 18, ABC has other ideas for the long-running medical drama. That's right, Greys Anatomy Season 19 is now up. The renewal announcement was made at the start of Season 18, and further confirming that Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital's mission is still on track.

Ellen Pompeo had her first public statement to convince people that the show should come to an end soon, according to an ABCs press release on Monday, January 10.

As another season is on the way, Pompeo's new Season 19 agreement will bump her up from co-executive producer to executive producer, while fellow executive producer Krista Vernoff will continue to serve as showrunner.

Season 19 of Greys Anatomy: The Premiere Date

Greys has followed the same release schedule for over 15 years, with new seasons always premiered at the end of September, with Season 17, which premiered in November due to lockdown delays, but Season 19 is expected to premiere on ABC in late September 2022.

It's always up in the air which of the show rotating cast members both new and old will show up in each new season, but there's absolutely no question about three doctors being on call. Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr. are all set to reprise their roles as Meredith Grey, Miranda Bailey, and Richard Webber, further cementing their status as the only actors to appear in every single season of the series.

In a statement on the renewal, series creator Shonda Rhimes said the three original stars would return for Season 19: "I couldnt be more excited that we get to continue to tell the stories of Meredith, Bailey, Richard, and all of the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial for another season."

Alexis Floyd was announced as a new regular cast member in Greys Season 19 on July 19. Previously, she played Anna Delvey's ever-loving loyal bestie Neff in the 2022 fraudster miniseries Inventing Anna.

Floyd will play a new surgical resident named Simone Griffin, who has a difficult personal relationship with Grey Sloan and a tense family dynamics.
