The long-awaited Wicked film adaptation(s) finally found its leads in Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in November 2021, although the cast almost looked different. As revealed in an interview with Backstage, Amanda Seyfried was up against Grande for the role of Glinda the Good Witch, and got so far in the casting process that she had to audition while filming what she described as the hardest part of her career.

While filming Hulus The Dropout, Seyfried said she did in-person auditions for the now-shuttered health technology company Theranos on the weekend. She explained that she's very interested in playing Elizabeth Holmes, the fraudulent entrepreneur behind the now-shuttered health technology business Theranos. Glinda has to be funny and dramatic. And she has to sing high and sing low. And so, there's the girl.

Seyfried revealed that she wanted to play Glinda in the Wicked film before she went to Broadway.com in 2015. She stated that she was taking vocal lessons to maintain her natural soprano in preparation for her audition. However, even she was concerned about her chances of landing the part. Seyfried achieved her goal of being a good candidate for the role over six years later, and took some valuable lessons from the audition process.
