Romano gives a late-night update on the 12m Leeds target ...

Leeds United have almost missed out on signing of New York City FC star Taty Castellanos, who is expected to play his final MLS match this weekend before joining Girona FC in La Liga.

Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter late last night to announce that his Saturday match against Phil Nevilles Inter Miami will be Castellanos' last games in the Big Apple, with the Argentine attacker signing for Girona, a fellow City Football Group club, which will take Leeds's loss.

Taty Castellanos will spend his last night with NYCFC this week, then his move to Girona will be completed in the following days. They want him to try out the La Liga this season.

The MLA Golden Boot champion's side reportedly chasing Castellanos along with other Premier League clubs, however, CFG have decided to keep the attacker in the club until 2021, with his signing expected for Girona, one of Manchester City's many sister clubs.

Jack Harrison, a former New York City player, was signed on loan to Middlesbrough and then to the Whites, with the deal eventually becoming permanent in 2021.

The loss of Castellanos would be a significant blow to Leeds, with Girona looking to land a bargain if the La Liga side performs at or near New York City's reported $15 million (12 million) valuation for the Argentina attacker, who has once again excelled in front of goal.

Jesse Marschs' transfer hunting has been a big focus this summer, with the American manager signing both Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams, two players who were born in the division before moving to Europe, although the Leeds manager will not make a three-from-three with Castellanos.

Castellanos' signing for Girona is a major setback for the Premier League.

Castellanos has been an MLS star for the past 18 months, and it is unfortunate that the Argentine attacker will not be bringing his talents to Leeds or the Premier League as a whole as Girona are expected to sign the New York City superstar this summer.

It makes perfect sense for a CFG club to sign one of the organization's most outstanding players, yet Leeds will suffer if they do not lose a player like Castellanos, who might become a household name in Spain with Girona if the versatile attacker hits the ground running.
