Arsenal and Tottenham lose out on a 6m bid to Mourinho, who have wanted him since Spurs' days ...

Zeki Celik was said to be being monitored by Arsenal and Tottenham ahead of a potential Premier League move earlier this year.

As a result of his performances for Lille, he has received many accolades, including helping him win the Ligue 1 championship in 2021.

Celik has made a major move away from France, but he is not heading to north London.

The Turkish international has decided to join Jose Mourinho at Roma in a 7 million (6 million) deal, meaning Tottenham have lost out on a goal against the man they sacked in 2021.

Fabrizio Romano claims that the Portuguese coach even wanted Celik during his days in National 17.

Mourinho has obtained a personal long-term goal, which he is sure to applaud.

After making 40 appearances in all competitions last season, Celiks has moved to Rome on a contract until June 2026, which includes three goals and three assists from the right-back.

Mikel Arteta and Antonio Conte have now begun to investigate other possibilities after missing out on Celik.

Although Spurs have already laid the groundwork on an alternative, we weren't exactly sure what the Gunners are planning to do.

According to some sources, Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence is on his way to Spurs. The deal might even be announced later this week.

Chris Wilder is keen for Tottenham to sign the 21-year-old so he may reinvest the funds in his own signings.

Spence was a target for Arsenal, which will make this transaction even more appealing to Tottenham fans.

Spurs appear to have an alternative to Celik, but only time will tell who Arsenal will choose to pursue instead.
