Hemsworth returns as the titular God of Thunder, who finds himself dealing with what Waititi described as a midlife crisis.

Bale plays Gorr the God Butcher, a menacing villain who wants to eliminate all gods. You can tell immediately that he is a serial killer bent on murdering gods. But it's a lovely tale, actually. He's sad and confused.

Tessa Thompson will play New Asgard king Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander will play Asgardian king Sif, Russell Crowe will play the king of the Olympians Zeus, and Natalie Portman will play Thors astrophysicist Jane Foster, who transforms into Mighty Thor.
