Tottenham has suffered a setback in their attempt to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Filip Kostic, who is expected to stay with the Bundesliga club this summer.
According to the Frankfurter Rundschau, the Serbian international is willing to stay with the UEFA Europa League champions despite strong interest from Juventus, with Tottenham also reported to be interested in Kostic, with the attacker likely to stay with Eintracht until the end of his contract in 2023.
Juventus are interested in signing Kostic, but have yet to make an offer for the winger, with Frankfurt imposing a 20 million (17 million) price tag on the attacker, with the Serie A club seemingly turning their attention to Angel Di Maria, who is currently on a free agent.
In fact, the Argentine international has been on Juventus' radar for a long time, and while this should indicate that Tottenham are in the position to sign Kostic, the forwards' decision to potentially stay puts Antonio Conte in the position.
According to the Bundesliga's official website, Kostic, a striker who has been compared to Tottenham legend Gareth Bale, might be a fantastic signing for Spurs, given the 29-year-old's versatility in the frontline and his impressive goalscoring and assist record with Frankfurt.
Kostic was absolutely crucial in Frankfurt's Europa League triumph last season, and with the winger now reportedly willing to stay for another season, it is a significant blow for Tottenham, who could have used the forwards' abilities in the coming campaign.
Spurs should sign Kostic next year because of the Frankfurt stay.
Tottenham may be dealt a huge blow by Kostic's stay this summer, but Spurs should be patient and wait to sign him next summer, when the Bundesliga superstar will be available for free.
Conte is fond of these types of agreements, and if he stays at Tottenham next year, Kostic on a free transfer would be an outstanding move for the north London manager.
