According to The Sun, Leeds United made a late attempt to sign Arsenal target Cheick Doucoure.
Cheick Doucoure is missing out on a trip to Crystal Palace by Leeds and Arsenal.
Crystal Palace are expected to sign Doucoure from RC Lens in the summer transfer window, according to the Sun.
The Eagles are expected to pay 18 million in transfer fees for the 22-year-old midfielder.
According to the Sun, Leeds made a late attempt to get a deal done, but Doucoure decided to leave the Eagles after a chat with Arsenal's manager Patrick Vieira.
Patrick Vieira is a well-known figure in the United States.
Vieira reportedly made sure during his interview with Doucoure that he would join Palace.
Arsenal, like Leeds, appears to have missed out on the signing of the Mali international on May 26.
It's believed that Arsenal legend Vieira's persuasion skills are to blame.
Doucoure made 33 starts and one substitute appearance for RC Lens last season.
In the previous games, the Malian midfielder scored one goal and provided four assists.
In 2020-21, the youngster made 30 starts and three substitute appearances in the league.
Doucoure scored two goals and provided an assist in both matches.
