Ms. Marvel has just made Disney+ history on Rotten Tomatoes

Ms. Marvel has just made Disney+ history on Rotten Tomatoes ...

Over the last few years, Marvel Studios has had a rollercoaster of a relationship with Rotten Tomatoes, with a dozen new projects having already been included to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Most of the new shows and movies have received praise, including the most recent appearance in Ms. Marvel.

Ms. Marvel received some fantastic reviews before the series launched on Disney+, mostly praising Iman Vellani's performance as Kamala Khan. The Direct explained how the series' visual work and its ties to the Avengers' history within the Marvel Cinematic Universe both help propel the narrative to new heights.

With three episodes in the works, how does Ms. Marvel stack up against its MCU predecessors in terms of Rotten Tomatoes ratings? Not only has it set a new standard in this regard, but it's also ranked high among all of its Disney+ companions from outside the Marvel universe.

Ms. Marvel has become the highest-rated Disney+ original.

Ms. Marvel from Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm gets a higher rating than every other Disney+ series from Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Ms. Marvel has a96% rating on her site after four episodes. This beats the 93% rating for Both Seasons of The Mandalorian and the 94% rating for What If...? The only show that rates higher is Season 7 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, although that one is technically a continuation of a show that didn't debut on Cartoon Network.

Rotten Tomatoes for the Marvel Cinematic Universe/Star Wars Series:

Ms. Marvel scores higher than every other major release outside of the MCU and Star Wars, including High School Musical: The Series. The only shows that come in lower are Diary of a Future President and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, although neither of them has a critical consensus and only eight and five overall ratings:

Scores for Non-MCU/Star Wars Rotten Tomatoes:

  • The Right Stuff: 55%
  • The Mysterious Benedict Society: 86%
  • High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 1: 75%
  • High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 2: 75%
  • Diary of a Future President: 100%(no critic concensus, only 8 ratings)
  • The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers: 87%
  • Big Shot: 78%
  • Turner & Hooch: 57%
  • Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.: 92%
  • Just Beyond: 88%
  • Monsters at Work: 65%
  • Chip n Dale: Park Life: 80%
  • The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder: 100%(no critic concensus, only 5 ratings)

This is particularly impressive considering that Ms. Marvel was subjected to review-bombing after its first episode.

Ms. Marvel has set a new highbar on Disney+.

While there seemed to be no debate over how much fans have enjoyed Ms. Marvel thus far, it comes as a pleasant surprise to see that it has become a household name among Disney+'s offerings from across the media spectrum.

The Mandalorian became an instant hit as part of Disney+'s grand launch in November 2019, with Season 2 scoring all of the same points as its predecessor. That doesn't even include the first Disney+ products from Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has a low mark of 83% with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, all else has a score of at least 90% or higher.

Iman Vellani and the rest of the cast and crew have delivered something that satisfies many fans and critics. With plenty of mysteries still to be solved, things should only continue to improve from here in terms of excitement and viewership, especially with Ms. Marvel now standing alone behind Obi-Wan Kenobi.

On Disney+, the first three episodes of Ms. Marvel are now available for viewing.
