Authorities have apprehended a suspect in the shooting of rapper Lil Tjay. Tjay was reportedly the target of an attempted robbery that left the 21-year-old with several gunshot wounds. Another associate was also wounded. On Wednesday evening (June 22), the Bergen County, N.J. Prosecutors Office had announced the arrest of Mohamed Konate, a 27-year-old man.
In connection with the shooting, Konate, who is on trial for attempted murder, three counts of armed robbery, and other unlawful weapons.
Apart from Konate, police have also apprehended two other men, Jeffery Valdez and Antoine Boyd, both of whom was the second person previously alleged to have been shot during the incident.
Both men have been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon in the second degree, but have been remanded to jail in the Bergen County jail, and will meet with a judge at the Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey, at an unintentional time.
On Wednesday morning, an initial statement about the shooting was issued, and information about Lil Tjay being one of the victims in question was confirmed shortly after.
The Major Crimes Unit in Bergen County and the Edgewater Police Department are investigating a shooting at 14 The Promenade in Edgewater, NJ on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Officers responded to a 911 call, which claimed a gunshot wound at the address, and found a 22-year-old victim with a gunshot wound. Both victims were transported to an area hospital where they are being treated.
Lil Tjay had emergency surgery on Wednesday and was initially identified as in serious condition, but has since been upgraded to stable.
