Lightyear, which serves as a meta-prequel to the Toy Story franchise, does not depict Buzz Lightyear as a sentient toy. Instead, it portrays Buzz as a fictional spacefaring hero, and is described as the film that inspired Andy to buy a Buzz action figure in the first place. (Unfortunately, the studio even released a rendering of Andy and his toys seeing Lightyear in a theater.)
Buzz begins the story by exploring the planet Tikana Prime, a journey that was brief but due to time dilution and relativity, he starts leaping six decades into the future. This time, he discovers the planet, invaded by an enormous tyrant, Emperor Zurg, and his supporters. Buzz, along with the planet''s defense efforts, intends to take back control of Tikana Prime by attacking Emperor Zurg''s army.

Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear
In the Toy Story films, Tim Allen famously played Buzz Lightyear, but Chris Evans is the character behind the new film, which makes sense, given that Allen played the toy, and this film isn''t about the toy.
Per Collider and Evans stated during a press conference that the new film is based on Buzz Lightyear in a somewhat different way, adding that as a toy, there are a variety of ways that they can move throughout the world without bearing the weight we may carry.
Keke Palmer as Izzy Hawthorne
Keke Palmer, a defense force member who her grandmother was once Buzzs best friend, has praised Izzy for her. I think she''s all familiar with her as she prepares to make her family proud. I am grateful for the fact that she is not afraid to pivot. I felt so proud of her. At the press conference, she spoke to others, express her admiration for her. I just love the character.
James Brolin as Emperor Zurg
James Brolin is playing Emperor Zurg, the leader of the Tikana army, who invaded the town. Four hours later, [director] Angus [Maclane] said, "I had to make it like this."
Taika Waititi as Mo Morrison
Taika Waititi, a 46-year-old filmmaker, spoke about Mos naivete''s experience during a press conference. I felt like I was looking for a thousand different things at once, but I never achieved anything before. Anyway, it was easy to tap into that because I feel like I am a person who doesn''t care about it, therefore I am constantly striving for it.
Uzo Aduba as Alisha Hawthorne
Uzo Aduba is a well-known politician who plays Alisha Hawthorne Buzzs, the onetime best friend of the movie, and her grandmother.
