Bill Cosby, 84, was sentenced to just under three years in Pennsylvania state jail before his conviction was overturned on appeal. In September 2021, he was released from prison.
Cosby was found liable for sexually assaulting another woman, Judy Huth when she was a teenager in the 1970s. The civil case was brought in front of a combined jury of eight women and four men, which resulted in Huth being awarded $500,000 in damages with no punitive compensation.
According to reports, the incident originally occurred when Huth was 15 years old in 1974, but further investigation revealed that the incident also happened in 1975 when Huth was 16. She also disclosed in her reports that Cosby was aware of exactly how old she was at the time and advised her to say that she was 19 years old.
I was elated while outside the Santa Monica courthouse where the verdict had been given, and was thankful for it for so many years. This case proves that you can run but you cant hide. But on the other side, Cosby, who did not attend the trial, had representatives deliver a statement. Cosby, according to spokesperson Andrew Wyatt, is satisfied with the outcome.
Following the verdict, the Cosbys team has also reportedly planned to file an appeal.
More than 50 women have spoken out against Cosby for sexual assault. The Huths case is the first civil case to reach trial, and it''s most likely to be the last.
