Naomi Osaka is partnering with SpringHill, a leading entertainment business, to produce and develop her own Japanese media company, Hana Kuma, which means flower bear in Japanese, and aims to make diverse and culturally rich stories worldwide. According to the New York Times, she has ambitious plans to develop her new business for scripted and unscripted television series, documentaries, anime, and brand content.

The first official project with Epix will be the Ben Proudfoot-directedMINK!. MINK! is a short film based on the New York Times Op-Doc about Patsy Takemoto Mink, the Hawaii Democrat, who became the first woman of color elected to the House of Representatives on Thursday (June 23). MINK! will explore the prohibition of gender discrimination in schools that received federal funding.

Osaka announced her new business in an Instagram post on Tuesday (June 21) and revealed the logo, revealing what inspired her to start her own media business.

My career has evolved into a different approach than those around me, and because my journey has been so different, it opened my eyes to all the amazing stories out there that aren''t being told in her lengthy caption. Stories that are global, about a variety of cultures and perspectives, and about important social issues. Thats why Im launching Hana Kuma, a media platform based on culturally specific but universal stories. Stories that are bold and playful like me.

LeBron James and Maverick Carters SpringHill will serve as a financing, operations, and producing partner for Osaka''s young media company. SpringHill wants to continue its philosophy of More Than An Athlete, as it aims to provide development, production, and empowerment to athletes with global appeal. Along with James and Carter, Hana Kuma has also added Chavonne LeNoir as the head of development. LeNoir previously worked at Vice Media, Disney, and MGM.
