Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available on Disney+, which is a Chaotic MCU Escapade ...

LET IT BE DECLARED THAT Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (now on Disney+) is a complicated endeavor. So, for those who for the first time wish to see Benedict Cumberbatch play a comic-book wizard (as he has in several previous movies), turn the car around, because you missed an exit, or perhaps a dozen exits, and youre near Atlanta when you were trying to get to Idaho.

Doctor Strange (Cumberbatch) has a ponytail right now! It was a gruesome battle with a CGI gobbledy monster in some bizarre nether-dimension, but an attempt to protect a young girl named America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) was all a dream. OR WAS IT, because well eventually learn that the stuff of dreams is actually the stuff of parallel universes, but lets not get ahead of ourselves, because we have events from previous events here,

Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) is a tragic figure. In this one scene, she must persuade her limbs into odd shapes and use her ability to exist in another world where she can have her children.

This is a sad and affecting arc that carries significant dramatic significance here, but fear not, the Madness balances the tragedy, with mind-and-body tripping through space-time and nutty Raimified comedy. Not that well get into that, because there are 2.7 people who havent seen the film yet, and want it spoiled. But the shenanigans involve the genre of character reveals, such as This is the Gap Junction, the space between universes, not one,

What Movies Will It Remind You Of?: A MCU film that identifies more non-MCU movies than MCU films? Thats unpossible! Raimi classics Army of Darkness, Drag Me to Hell, and Evil Dead II, as well as the Inside Out trip at the brain and the multiversal antics of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Everything Everywhere all at once.

Cumberbatch is a rock-solid comedio-dramatic foundation, which seems to be putting himself in front of him; Olsen consolidates hopeful Newcomer status, but her potential is untapped (bet you a nickel America Chavez will appear again in the MCU) but McAdams provides a memorable performance, which is no mean feat in a movie where there are a tens of thousands of things going on.

It''s me, in other mes body.

Are you satisfied? You''d think that in rescuing the world, you''d be able to get there, but it doesn''t.

Doctor Strange does not place the hex in sex in the multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, except in the sexy universe that only exists in an alternate universe to our real nonfictional universe, like the Spice Channel.

Our Take: Multiverse of Madness is unlikely to settle the debate as to whether or not a large-name director will be allowed to make a movie transcend the MCU''s finite tonal and visual boundaries. Raimi is unique here, and he enjoys plenty of room to convince us that this MCU entry has the greatest auteurial outlook yet. I think this guy is a genius for getting the guy who, in turn, knows how to get the ball rolling.

It takes a bit to get there. This is a dark, creepy, labyrinthine narrative that lives and dies on fodder first dealt up in Wandavision, but still delivers compelling and dramatic lines, as well as by MCU overlords who are able to dominate the theatrical process and possibly extinct the concept of standalone fiction, but wildly so after about the first hour and 15, so at least theres a substantial profit for all the work loopy, but nonetheless it. About every

Our Call: STREAM IT. My gut claims that this is the best MCU film since the Infinity War/Endgame narrative megacrunch, or perhaps the last Guardians of the Galaxy. Raimi''s overlapping piece of the Venn diagram will be happy, and that the MCU isn''t just saving or destroy, so Disney is also happy.
