On Real Time with Bill Maher, the HBO host spoke for millennials, particularly those who work in the Washington Post''s newsroom last night.
Maher presented a play-by-play on Felicia Sonmez, a WaPo reporter and some of her male colleagues during his New Rule segment of the show, which resulted in Sonmez being fired, and another reporter being put on a months leave without pay.
Maher was stunned that everything began from a retweet of a joke about the opposite sex being crazy, something men and women have been doing to each other for centuries. No one but the perpetually offended believes it means anything more than that the sexes become confused about how different we each perceive the world, he said.
Unfortunately, he claims that the unlicensed daycare facility in the WaPo newsroom didn''t seem to find the humor.
Is there a place to live in that world that allows silly jokes you dislike? Yes, the leadership dwindled like a condo in Miami, implying that the outlet remained focused on one of the institutions'' values-free speech.
Maher expanded his argument to criticize Millennials as a whole, who are now taking over the workplace as Baby Boomers retire.
Maher said that his generation is an eyeroll. He said that his sense of entitlement is legendary, highlighting your attention span and work ethic, as well as the unqualified little shit who doesn''t understand why he is not a producer yet. This story, according to Maher, is so relevant because everybody understands the key players in it.
Adding that the reason Boomers will not go down from their high positions to make the difference for millennials is because of incidents like this.
Maher said the crybabies are still winning. They have complained that they haven''t taken over yet. The fact that the Posts had asked to punish one of their best reporters, shows that the kindergarten is still in charge.
In the 1970s, Maher praised WaPos'' coverage of the Watergate scandal. I have to wonder how the Posts today would handle this process. All this time blubber-tweeting. Why are you supposed to be reporters digging up everything? This is why youre not in charge. If someone named Deep Throat called today and wanted to meet, this crew of emotional hemophiliacs would have an anxiety attack and report to HR they did not feel safe.
The host concluded that there is a glimmer of hope since the WaPo declared Sonmez. Maybe there is a line. That generation must find that line and move it closer to sanity. Because democracy dies in dumbness.
