Newcastle are confident in signing an amazing player, according to a journalist ...

Express journalist Ryan Taylor talks about Newcastle and their interest in Hugo Ekitike on his YouTube channel.

It may only be mid-June, but this has arguably been one of the longest transfer sagas in recent memory.

Newcastle were keen on Ekitike back in January, but the Frenchman reportedly rejected a move to St James Park following an objection from his parents.

Newcastle are back in contact with the striker, and as this deal sounded to be completed, it reportedly ended as PSG entered the competition for his signature.

Everything is likely to be up in the air at the moment with this one, but according to Taylor, Newcastle are still optimistic about signing the exceptional striker, declaring that things will move quickly once the attackers'' holiday is passed.

Whats been said?

Taylor talked about Ekitike and Newcastle.

Ekitike, to be honest, I''m a bit lost on that. The information I received earlier in the week indicated that it was still going ahead, but others and journalists aren''t as sure, according to Taylor.

I believe it will continue, he is on holiday at the moment, but upon his return things will be moving quickly. Newcastle are confident they can get a deal over the line, they have a basic agreement with Reims, they are yet to agree personal terms with the player, so that''s one that must be completed.

Taylor claims that things on the Ekitike front will move quickly once he''s returned from his holiday, and that it should be music to every Newcastle fan ears.

This ongoing debate about Ekitike is a challenge. One minute the deal is one, the next is off, and you were certain that every member of the Toon Army just wants to come up with a single conclusion.

If Ekitike signs, then Newcastle will have developed a very fantastic striker, but if he heads elsewhere, at least Dan Ashworth might try and accomplish other targets.
