Tottenham and Newcastle are believed to be among the clubs that have begun discussions to sign Burnley winger Dwight McNeil, and Kieran Trippier has been urged to leave Burnley back in 2020.
McNeil, 22, has been a regular for Burnley for the last two seasons, achieving 147 goals for the club. In that time, he has set up 24 goals, scored seven, and has created 17.
According to reports, Tottenham and Newcastle are among the clubs that have begun discussions to sign the England Under-21 international. Everton, Brentford, West Ham, and Fulham are among the clubs in the mix for McNeil.
Trippier said in 2020 that he was urging McNeil to stay at his former club. He said that he was playing under Sean Dyche, a manager who suits him, and that it was different for him when he left Burnley.
It''s no benefit to be a member of his board, but he has the right manager to guide him. If I were him, Id keep playing games. Why would you move now for somebody like him, who is doing really well? According to Trippier, there''s no point.
Just keep doing well on the biggest stage and stay put. I had just been relegated so I had to go to a Premier League club, according to Trippier two years ago.
Tottenham and Newcastle have commenced discussions on McNeil.
Given Trippiers'' remarks, his position will certainly have changed as Dyche has been sacked. Now that Burnley have been relegated, he will certainly agree that a move for McNeil is something he must do.
Which club needs him the most? Tottenham are likely to recruit a winger, with Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura being linked with summer departures. Newcastle need a right winger to replace Ryan Fraser and Miguel Almiron.
So, it is up to McNeil. If it is between Newcastle and Tottenham, would he prefer to start for the Toon or cover Spurs who are in the Champions League? Time will tell.
