Jurassic World Dominion is out Friday in cinemas worldwide. It is a bad film, which we might as well as avoid head on. The latter is thrown out in a retcon manner in an attempt to make Jurassic World Dominion more about parenting and a mothers love.
The much greater crime that Jurassic World Dominion commits is in (largely) abandoning the potential of the latter. Instead of being set in our world and focusing on what it might be for humans to co-exist with dinosaurs, one brief feature of the 10-minute film Battle at Big Rockand, which is no longer part of the movie, it once again takes place in an isolated dinosaur sanctuary, which is administered solely for the benefit. The stupidity of Emily Carmichael''s co-screenwriter at Jurassic World Dominion here is enhanced by the fact that the best part of Jurassic World Dominion does take place in the real world. Malta, to be specific, is discovering the protagonists venturing into a dinosaur black market that sells doner dino kebabs, and where chained raptors are made to fight each other for sport. It''s an immaculate setting.
The narrow streets of Malta are fascinating chase sequences, with the most significant, thanks to Jurassic World''s John Schwartzman''s commentary.

For the most part, Jurassic World Dominion is incoherent, predictable, shabbily executed, too self-serious, and needlessly long (at 146 minutes with credits). As you may imagine, Jurassic World Dominion is similar to Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore discards previously-important characters or relegates them to the sidelines. Even Owens raptor friend Blue has been forgotten, and her baby Beta is used more as a MacGuffin than anything else. As the Jurassic World series itself does not seem to care about its major faces, how will it help us?
The bigger issue is that previous Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom have sucked away at developing the new human characters, making us care for them. But now that it is too late to make amends, Trevorrow has simply chosen to mine our fascination with the original trio, one of whom made a cameo appearance last time around. Yet Dern has found a more natural character than Pratt has managed in three films.
Pratt, in my opinion, has never been the right anchor for this film. No matter how much Hollywood keeps tweaking it his way, I think Trevorrow has discovered that. While unlike the first two films, he is rarely left on his own here on Jurassic World Dominion.

Pratts success as a bland action hero matches Trevorrow''s success as a bland blockbuster action director. Despite his lack of success as a writer and perhaps the third, Trevorrow would have co-written the script for every entry in the Jurassic World trilogy. However, despite his growing success as a writer and the ever-weakening critical review of his work, Universal Pictures has trusted him with its second-biggest cash cow.
I''ll give Jurassic World Dominion less than a decade before it decides to add to the canon again, in some ways. For the time being, Trevorrow, Pratt, and Co. tried to mimic the original in some ways, sending us back to the park but bigger.
