Tesla was conducting an online recruiting event in China on Thursday and added two dozen additional jobs, a week after Elon Musk threatened job cuts at the electric car company and claimed the company was excessively employed in some areas.

According to an online post, Tesla plans to conduct the event on Monday morning at Shanghai time (4:30pm IST).

According to a separate thread on its WeChat account, Tesla has 224 new openings in China for managers and engineers, including 24 new ones on June 9.

Managers and engineers are among the people interviewed to lead the operation of their 6,000-ton die casting machines known as Giga Press, one of the world''s biggest.

Tesla has been able to organize such hire meetings online in China, with the most recent being for summer interns.

China''s revenue increased more than doubled in 2021 than it did last year, contributing to a quarter of the total income for the US automobile manufacturer.

The Shanghai facility, which sells Model 3 and Model Ys for domestic sale and export, had over half of its automobiles last year, and Tesla intends to expand it.

Shanghai''s two-month COVID-19 halted work for 22 days, causing the plant to stall fuel consumption. Tesla had intended to increase production at the facility to 22,000 automobiles per week by mid-May.

Musk, the chief executive, said in an email received by Reuters last week that he had a shady economic outlook and needed to reduce ten percent of the workforce at the electric car manufacturer.

Musk told employees in another email on Friday that Tesla would reduce their salaried headcount by 10 percent as it has become overstaffed in many areas, but added that the hourly headcount will increase.

Musk had not commented on China''s personnel.
