Red Notice Is the Most Watched Movie Ever on Netflix ...

Red Noticehas officially become the most watched movie in Netflix history. According to the streaming service, it earned 328.8 million viewing hours, reclaiming the title from its previous owner, the 2018sBird Box, which stars Sandra Bullock.

WhileBird Box completed four weeks to improve its 282 million hours of streaming,Red Notice earned the top spot in 18 days. According to reports, 50 percent of Netflix users have currently seen the action comedy film.

The film, directed by Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, is in-app Top 10 on 94 countries, according to the streamer. After a FBI profiler (Johnson) who sets up with the world''s greatest art thief (Reynolds) to catch another criminal, Rawson Marshall Thurber is the filmmaker and writer.

Red Notice was originally intended for release by Universal Pictures before being acquired by Netflix for distribution. At Universal, the $200 million film would have likely had a purely theatrical release, at least initially. Instead, Netflix had a limited theatrical release by November 5, which began on the streaming platform just one week later.

The overwhelming majority of viewers chose to watch the movie at home. While Netflix does not report official box office figures for their theatrical releases,Deadline reported in November that the running gross for the film was well below $2 million. Traditionally, a blockbuster movie would be expected to earn much, much more, but Netflix is less concerned with the initial revenue as it is developing trust among its viewers, and in this regard, they achieved.

Despite a lukewarm critical reception,Red Notices'' popularity has all-but-guaranteed a sequel. In late November, Thurber stated that if a sequel were to be greenlit, the only reason would be to film two installments back-to-back.
