Venom Is the Second Film of the Pandemic to Domestic Gross $200 Million ...

Never underestimate the power of a symbiote.

The $200 million mark on the domestic box office was hit over the weekend. That makes it the second film since the pandemic began to earn much money in the United States alone. (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsis the other), respectively. So the sequel has a chance to tie or surpass the original, in the middle of the Covid period. No wonder Sony is bullish about continuing to mine Spider-Man comics for other spinoff superhero films.

According to the Box Office Mojo, these are the top-grossing movies of 2021 in the United States. Note that the top three films of the year are all based on Marvelcomics (plus they can also claim credit for a fourth film in the top ten):

The box office is on a long run when its thought to be fully recovered from the epidemic. So far in 2021, there were only nine films, with less than two months to go in the year, and few more blockbusters will still go. I take a lot of pride in that.

The film Venom: Let There Be Carnage is still playing in cinemas.
