The Las Vegas Strip has some surprising sports news

The Las Vegas Strip has some surprising sports news ...

Las Vegas has shifted from Sin City to Sports City. Las Vegas, which once off-limits to major sporting events, has become the world''s largest sports hub.

If your sporting event needs to be perceived as huge then proceed to the Las Vegas Strip, or at least opposite to that famous highway, and the world will be on you.

When the Supreme Court of the United States recognized legalizing sports betting as a state-by-state issue, everything changed for Las Vegas.

This improved sports betting by allowing more states to expand, and instead of making Vegas less unique, it increased sports betting.

Something that was once widespread but not legal was brought out into the spotlight, and which has given Vegas a new era of respectability.

The Golden Knights, an NHL expansion group, have returned to the city, where they have frequently played to sell-out crowds.

It''s also likely, though not completely done, that the Oakland Athletics might someday (soon) call The Strip home.

The Golden Knights play at the T-Mobile Arena, there are two other NBA-grade arena projects currently underway.

Las Vegas will also feature a Formula 1 race in 2023, which just served as the home of the NFL Draft, and will feature a Super Bowl.

The biggest thing that previously hit the city the NFL''s former Oakland, now the Las Vegas Raiders, has been the city''s crown jewel, and according to new statistics, the team has been an even bigger economic driver than previously.

Raiders Drive Traffic to MGM, Caesars, Strip

While the Golden Knights play 41 home games, hockey isn''t the game''s draw.

Every Las Vegas Raiders home game drives traffic to Caesars Entertainment''s strip casinos CZR, MGM Resorts International (MGM) - Get MGM Resorts International Report, Wynn Resorts (WYNN) - Get Wynn Resorts, Limited Report, and other operators.

Every game is a massive event, because there are only 17 NFL games for each season.

Fans of the Raiders travel from Oakland to Las Vegas, as well as fans of the opposing teams.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Raiders tickets have increased the value of the secondary market.

According to Logitix, the average Raiders home game ticket at Allegiant Stadium on the secondary market is $595.

The Raiders are followed by the Miami Dolphins ($387), the Los Angeles Chargers ($361), the L.A. Rams ($359), and the Kansas City Chiefs ($354).

High demand in secondary markets, i.e. tickets being sold, shows that tourists will pay a premium price to see a game in Las Vegas.

Sports Becomes a Las Vegas Calling Card

During his first quarter earnings call, MGM Resorts International CEO Bill Hornbuckle revealed that he sees sports as a revenue/customer driver for the entire Strip.

"We also held the NFL Draft on this weekend, which included the entire Las Vegas Strip," he said.

"We''ll also have huge sporting events coming with the NCAA Men''s Basketball Regionals on tap for March of next year, along with the first-of-a-kind Formula 1 Race in the Las Vegas Strip in November of 2023. And, obviously, we''ll host the Super Bowl in February of 2024."

Hornbuckle sounded quite excited about the impact of sporting events on the city''s recovery.

"All of these big events highlight the tremendous progress the City has made as a entertainment and sports destination," he added.

The CEO said he sees the momentum in the city becoming even more a sports hub.

"Because in sports, with all the things I mentioned earlier, Formula 1 is coming forward, every weekend that we had a game or an event down in the South and was a teens-digit growth norm for those properties," said the narrator.

"And so that''s all inherently built into our future right now, and so we''re very pleased with that as well as what''s going on in Las Vegas," said the director.
