It''s been over 26 years since Eddie Murphy became a director of Beverly Hills Cop, which now has a roster of major success. Even with the first few episodes, Murphy decided to take the lead. ''I''ll pay the price,'' says the writer. There''s also a chance that he''ll take on the lead. It''s also been a surprise for the filmmakers as he travels to Beverly Hills, where he''ll be back on screen.
As Axel Foley''s hero cop from the Beverly Hills Cop franchise had graced the silver screen for the first two movies, the third movie, which was aptly titled Beverly Hills Cop III, was relatively small. So, after all of the first two movies, the worldwide total cost of $119 million, which for the time was quite a huge budget. So, after all of the fourth movies, 2019, we saw a lot of effort in returning Murphys Foley for the fourth time. So, what exactly is
With the franchise starting in 1984 and ending in 1994, some of you may not have even been born or (gasp!) may not even realize Eddie Murphy''s true skill.
When Eddie Murphy''s Saturday Night Live premiered, Murphy''s first feature, 48 Hrs. He followed that with Trading Places, a huge hit for the rising comedian, and the Beverly Hills Cop. The story was about a Detroit cop who once met a killer, who was murdered by his childhood friend. He then took the blame and tossed himself in the dark, posing a challenge as soon as possible. Foley''s uninteresting tactics eventually stoke him back to justice.
Eddie Murphy''s success would be followed-up by a second three years later. It was a familiar story, bringing back all the characters from the first as Foley returns to Beverly Hills to investigate the near-fatal shooting of Chief Bogomil (Ronny Cox), whom Foley finally won over in the first film. He joins up again with Reinhold and Ashton, and police hijinks ensue.
Seven years after the second Beverly Hills Cop, it featured multiple scripts, most of which included moving Foley overseas to London where he would deal with Scotland Yard, and more kidnapping or killing. Steven E. de Souza, the writer of Die Hard, was cited as die Hard in a theme park.
The film did not make those ambitious goals, but Murphy is pretty much assuming it was the reason for the third film. There''s no need to be involved in it. Theyre in pre-production. The only reason to do a Cop III is to get into a location that he doesn''t belong.''
Eddie Murphy still doesn''t need to spend money on a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film in the near future, but he has been able to withdraw plenty of money in the past, and it''s probable that he will return to a role that aided him to become a legend? Nostalgia, however.
The idea of a fourth film has existed for decades. Eddie Murphy Productions, who was then defunct, was launching a fourth film back in the late 1990s. Then Paramount took it on with the Lorenzo di Bonaventura hook. It ended the process until another director, Brett Ratner, was brought on board and removed the idea of killing off fan-favorite Rosewood. It was the first time it was made.
Square one involved a fresh idea and a new script. Despite the fact that the plot on the front was too long, Ratner also had to move along. Clearly, during the early to mid-2000s, Murphy didn''t get in any hurry to make a fourth film. In fact, Murphy has completely disappeared from Hollywood.
With his Netflix film Dolemite is My Name, Eddie Murphy is progressing slowly and surely returning to his roots on Saturday Night Live. Another major surprise for the comedian was that there would be a Coming 2 America, a stand-up, and a return to Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop 4.
Murphy has completely denied that he would appear in this episode of Beverly Hills 4 this decade. Foley was slated to star in the pilot for a Beverly Hills Cop TV series that would feature Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder, Percy Jackson, and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief). The reason that didn''t get picked up was because [the studio] believed that I was going to perform it now. So, it''s clear that [the script] was so bad that I wasn''t going to
There is little information on how Axel Foley will be reunited with the actors in Beverly Hills Cop 4 (we are guessing Beverly Hills?) nor who will return from the production (what is Bronson Pinchots Serge doing?) and the Ratners are as engaged as ever in the film. Were still involved in the project, and there is now a screenwriter who will attempt to compose a first draft or a first treatment at least with the story.
Eddie Murphy has also confirmed to Collider that the fourth film will be coming, however, it''s clear that after coming to America 2, we''re doing Beverly Hills Cop and then we''ll go back on stage and do standup. These movies and Saturday Night Live are kind of likeI''m contemplating it as a bookend. I ended it on a funny note. The Beverly Hills Cop portion of his interview is shown below.
During the summer of 2021, California''s Film & TV tax credit program revealed the name of 23 states films. According to reports, one of those movies is Beverly Hills Cop 4 with Eddie Murphy.
The rest of the Cop 4 news isn''t anything, except that it has been purchased on Netflix. Foley will not feature familiar characters as well as stand-up until 2022, according to fans. With all the good news about Murphy returning to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, Triplets, a sequel to Schwarzenegger and DeVitos 1988, the Twins will be limited. Plus, the more Eddie Murphy, the better.
The film Beverly Hills Cop 4, which has been in development since the mid-1990s, has recently found itself a new director. Perhaps, just maybe, this news will get Eddie Murphy back into Axel Foleys sneakers and a Detroit Lions jacket.
Mark Molloy has been chosen to replace departing directors and the team of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah who left the film to take over the role of Batman in the Warner Bros superhero film Batgirl, which will see Michael Keaton return as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The duo, best known for their roles in the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence buddy cop action film Bad Boys For Life, were in high demand to resurrect Axel Foley and eventually return him to cinemas
Molloy has never directed a feature film before. Beverly Hills Cop 4 will be a huge jump for him, as well as a huge feather in his directing cap if everything goes to plan.
Although Molloy has been released on board, no progress has been made on a production timeline. Josh Applebaum, Will Beall, and Andre Nemec wrote the script, based on the characters created by Daniel Petrie, a Beverly Hills Cop original writer. So far, only Eddie Murphy has been cast in the movie, and there are only rumors about the return of some of the fan favorites from the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies (we won''t talk about the third film in the series. Youre welcome).
There is speculation that John Ashton will be reprising his role as Chief Justice John Taggart, but no word is on if Judge Reinhold will be back as Det. Billy Rosewood (come on, ya gotta have Judge Reinhold!). Now, can we please get the cameras rolling on Beverly Hills Cop 4? Pretty please?
