How Disney Transfered James Gunn's 'Swagger' to Epcot's Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster

How Disney Transfered James Gunn's 'Swagger' to Epcot's Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster ...

This summer, the Guardians of the Galaxy are back in more ways than one! Along with appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder this July, Marvel Studios'' favorite stars are the stars of Cosmic Rewind. It''s a groundbreaking "story coaster," which allows fans to experience the quest of saving the galaxy alongside Star-Lord, Rocket, and the rest of the crew.

EPCOT guests enter the Wonders of Xandar pavilion in order to learn more about Xandar''s Cosmic Generator with the goal of rewinding time; and it''s up to the visitingTerrans - and the Guardians - to save the galaxy. Again.

WhileGuardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was a challenge in terms of its evolved rotating ride vehicles and reverse launch, bringing James Gunn''s vision from the big screen into reality was another, according to Disney Imagineering.

How Disney Incorporated James Gunn''s Style Into Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

The Direct presented the adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ahead of its May 27 debut, andImagineering explained that translating the Guardians of the Galaxy''s distinctive style - which they referred to as "swagger" - was extremely important as it is so evident and inherent to the property.

In addition to joining James Gunn on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to film the ride''s live-action footage, DisneyImagineering claimed they "checked in with Gunn" while creating the attraction, as well as participating in the film''s "script reviews." Cosmic Rewind, however, has a fantastic 75 minutes of new original Guardians content.

Imagineering said that they "watched the original Guardians a lot" in order to recreate the look and design of Xandar. In fact, they included Xandarian shapes and its physical appearance in pretty much everything, including the ride''s safety signs; and the design elements of the Kyln from the 2014 film can be seen in the ride building.

A New Way to Experience Gunn''''s Guardians

Although Disney''s Marvel attractions aren''t considered canon and exist in their own timeline, EPCOT''s Cosmic Rewind is pure Guardians of the Galaxy fun and a 100 percent on-brand with what fans have seen.

Disney''s theme parks have long been known for its natural beauty and attention to detail, and Marvel fans are sure to appreciate Imagineering''s commitment to bringing James Gunn''s cosmic world into our own.

Despite the fact that this isn''t the first attraction at the Guardians of the Galaxy that Imagineering has developed or that James Gunnand thecast has created.

Mission:Breakout! opened at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort back in 2017, paving the way for the park''s Avengers Campus, which was officially inaugurated in 2021.

Cosmic Rewind was created completely inside The Collector''s Fortress, and contractual issues make it the last one. While Mission: Breakout! took place entirely inside The Collector''s Fortress, Cosmic Rewind was tasked with recreating elements of Xandar, introducing a massive Celestial, and taking guests through outer space.

Despite such challenges, Disney appears to have succeeded, offering visitors a whole new way to experience a Marvel adventure, one that stays true to James Gunn''s cosmic corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The EPCOT of Walt Disney World will place Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind on May 27.
