According to Variety, the CBS decision to give up Season 3 and Season 4 of the show came amid reports that The Equalizer averaged 9.5 million viewers per episode during its second season.

The Equalizer continues to punch a lot on Sunday nights, and was delighted to have it back for two more seasons, according to Thom Sherman, the senior executive vice president of programming at CBS Entertainment. The success of The Equalizer is fueled by the outstanding cast led by Queen Latifah, along with the outstanding creative team that has continued to steward their storytelling with a compelling blend of everyday justice, family dynamics, and real-world issues.

The Equalizer''s cast currently includes Lorraine Toussaint, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, and Laya DeLeon Hayes as part of the Season 2 finale. Latifah is also seen opposite Adam Sandler in the Netflix drama Hustle, which premieres on June 8.
