Meta is investing even more money on a big idea ...

Many were left disappointed by Meta''s (MVRS) announcement in the first quarter.

While the results it reveals were mixed, one striking item was impossible to ignore: It lost a whopping $10 billion in 2021 from its Reality Labs division.

Mark Zuckerberg has stated that at every turn in the last few years, he wants to be a pioneer in the metaverse space utilizing virtual reality as a key tool.

Meta purchased VR company Oculus in 2014 and changed its pioneering technology to its own, changing the name of its flagship headset Oculus Quest to Meta Quest.

In 2021, the Meta Quest headset sold 8.7 million units, indicating that beyond the original video game-centric platform, VR is increasing the audience interest.

Meta surpassed this by playing up all of the non-game offerings available in the headset, from reichlich exercise apps like "Supernatural" to interactive social platforms like its own "Facebook Horizons."

It has announced that this year''s newest VR headset, which is specifically designed for work, will be released.

The project, called Project Cambria, was first renamed in October 2021, and promises to mirror users'' facial expressions in VR for a more real experience in the metaverse.

Meta Is Debuting This Year in What New VR Technology

It appears to me that Meta might have more than one VR headset in the works.

According to a "intern road map," The Information intends to launch a total of four new headsets by 2024. Project Cambria will be the first of these.

The next two in line are thought to be new versions of the current Meta Quest 2.

These headsets, which have the names Stinson and Cardiff, will be available in 2023 and 2024. It''s likely that these will have a higher resolution and are lighter than the Meta Quest 2, which weighs 17.4 pounds.

The final headset is a follow-up to the Project Cambria headset, which will be released in 2024.

Will Meta''''s VR Efforts Be a Success?

With Meta''s high sales of the Meta Quest, it''s well-positioned to gain the support of both the gaming market and those who have purchased the product for other use with its upcoming headsets.

To encroach more users outside the video game userbase, Meta will have to continue to make the Meta Quest more seamless and less clunky.

While the wireless headset has provided the most advanced VR experience yet, it is still too complex and lacks the crispness of higher-resolution headsets, like the Vive Pro 2.

Since the headset costs $799, Meta needs a way to break the chain between advanced technology and affordability.

Selling the Project Cambria headset will likely be a major challenge, especially considering that it will cost a lot more than Meta Quest models.

Meta has struggled to equate its users to adopt its metaverse vision.

If Meta has any hope of making it all working, businesses will have to be extremely impressed by the product.
