Wednesday, the media company said it has acquired North American rights to the upcoming social thriller from The Assistant writer-director. Her Assistant star will complete the picture alongside Hugo Weaving.

The image, which will begin shooting this summer in Australia, is from See-Saw Films, which most recently produced the Oscar-nominated The Power of the Dog.

Hanna (Garner) and Liv (Henwick) are travelling in Australia on a temporary live-in basis, which is often referred to by locals as Down Under drinking people. However, when their jokes and actions escalate, Hanna and Liv discover themselves trapped in a difficult situation.

Emile Sherman and Iain Canning are directing with Liz Watts and Kath Shelper of See-Saw. The pic is being financed with funding from Screen NSW. HanWay and Cross City Films are boosting international sales outside Australia.

We are very pleased to be working with Neon again on the release of The Royal Hotel, Sherman and Canning said. Neon have an undisputed history of assisting both emerging and established filmmakers, and putting together innovative and provocative campaigns. We know that they are the right place to produce this film in U.S. theaters.

Grainne Brunsdon, Screen Australia's Head of Content, said: "We're delighted to support award-winning filmmaker Kitty Green's first feature at home in Australia with this uniquely Australian psychological thriller."

Neon's Jeff Deutchman and Mason Speta negotiate the agreement, with Simon Gillis in partnership with Cross City Films, See-Saw's in-house sales subsidiary, and with the UTA Independent Film Group.
