, a veteran who has served as interim executive producer of CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell, has announced his retirement later this summer.
After Jay Shaylor's departure last year, Ortiz stepped into the role during the evening newscast.
On Wednesday's editorial call, Ortiz said, per the network, "I'm extremely proud of what we've done on the broadcast over the last year. I'm proud of the awards we've won under Norah's leadership, proud of the continuous improvement in ratings and demos."
Ortiz has served as executive producer of the evening news broadcast for 43 years, including as vice president of standards and practices, the foreign editor, the London bureau chief, and the Washington bureau chief. He first joined CBS News Radio in 1977.
