The first fresh footage from Paul King's feature musical about the candymeister has been revealed at CinemaCon. The film has not been released until Christmas 2023.
Think Fantastic Beasts in terms of period (think early 20th century), but also more fun: More leg-kicking, twirling dancing, and a giraffe running through a municipal building (a train station?). The visuals contrast with purples and browns. Wonka arrives in what looks to be London (the pic was shot there) and slowly rising to his candy impresario fame, the pic being an origins narrative.
"You've never had Chocolate like this," one of the musical numbers said. Sally Hawkins plays the girlfriend who enjoys Chocolate.
