The first Norwegian series is a fun sci-fi crime series with the most odd couple detective pairing you could imagine. Lars, a senior detective, works with Alfhildr to investigate a Stone Age femme's murder in Oslo. Oh, right, this series is set in an Oslo, where migrants, or "Beforeigners," from the Viking Age, and other nations appear in the present day. With plenty of fish-out-water comedy ground, Beforeigners is one unique murder mystery.
Made for Love (2021)
What would you do if your husband had inserted a chip into your brain to see your every move? Hazel Green (Cristin Milotti) is faced with this dilemma and immediately goes on the run with the not entirely effective assistance of her dad (Ray Romano). Traverse the tricky territory of this satirical relationship drama with a Black Mirror edge and a helpful dolphin. Yep, it is as complete as it will linger.
Babylon 5 (1993-1998)
As Earth carves its place in the galactic community, Babylon 5 is an important legacy show. Though it might have dated edges today, it would be blasphemy to overlook it on this list. Political intrigue, character studies, and the danger of conflict ensue.
Skies in the Shadows (2011-2015)
This post-apocalyptic sci-fi transforms family drama into alien invasions. Falling Skies focuses on a group of survivors who plan to take off following a global invasion by extraterrestrials. Five seasons bring multiple alien races, space travel, and a satisfying final standoff.
Years and Years (2019)

Peacemaker (2021)
While the Suicide Squad spinoff series is 90% a superhero show, it attracts visitors from other nations. It also features the titular Peacemaker, an outrageous John Cena, who discovers where his catchphrase -- "I cherish peace with all of my heart." The James Gunn-written series is a rollicking time with a surprising heart.
Snowpiercer (2020)
The 2013 sci-fi actioner directed by Bong Joon-ho has some excellent accoutrements. One of them is Jennifer Carpenter's Melanie Cavill, the head of hospitality on the constantly moving luxury train that keeps passengers safe from the frozen wasteland the world has become. Yet this small part of humanity can't escape class challenges, the lower carriages progressing towards rebirth. An excellent story on the big and small screen.
Doctor Who (2005)
If you're looking for an adventurous, genre-bending, barnstorming adventure, try the later Jodie Whittaker episodes. Whittaker is a time-traveling, space-faring alien adventurer with a kind heart and a far-out-this-world sense of humor. Serious pleasure.
Fringe (2008-2013)
Five seasons of this sci-fi process await you. Explore parallel universes and alternate timelines with the Fringe Division, a team of specialists tasked with investigating unexplained phenomena. After a rough first season, Fringe decided to go, bringing innovative ideas and a moving emotional core together.
Westworld (2016)
