Stranger Things (2016)

Travelers (2016-2018)

Full disclosure: After its third season, Netflix cancelled Travelers, but this tightly plotted sci-fi out of Canada does not end with an ambitious bang. We begin with Marcy, a disabled woman who is beaten up after assisting a friend escape violence. She passes away, and this powerful character-driven sci-fi uncovers its secrets in clever ways, following operatives from the future tasked with preventing society's collapse but also traversing the difficult territory of living a double life.

Black Mirror (2011)

Black Mirror, a bleak tech anthology series, is packed with fascinating insights into future technology through painfully human stories. One of those is San Junipero, who follows two women in the 1980s (cue banging soundtrack) and is revealed with genius timing and, in general, the show explores the consequences of our connected-in lives in disturbing and sometimes soothing ways.

The 100 (2014-2020)

If The 100 looks like your standard teen drama, then you should be exceeding your expectations. This post-apocalyptic series has generated seven seasons, and the 100 has brought rich world-building and moral dilemmas that put stereotypical characters into unique, compelling places. The 100 is a generation of juvenile detainees sent to Earth to determine if it's habitable post-apocalypse. 100 percent give this one a go.

Dark (2017-2020)

Dark's meditative approach to time travel and its implications on human nature is waiting to hit you at full force. A sci-fi noir, Dark folds time travel, conspiracies, and alien family into a generation-spanning tale started by a child's disappearance.

The Economic Opportunity Act (2016-2019)

The OA isn't as dangerous as the axing of Netflix. This wildly unique story follows Prairie Johnson, a young blind woman who was previously missing, now with the ability to see. She also convinces a small group of locals to listen to her horrible narrative, involving abductions and great escapes. Lost in Space (2018-2021)

Two years after humanity discovers itself on the brink of extinction, the talented Robinson family travels out with a crew to colonize a new planet. Alongside a special family drama, the two individuals, including a mystery, a heart, and a memorable villain in Dr. Smith, give Lost in Space plenty of energy to take off (seasons 2 and 3 are significantly improved over 1).

The Silent Sea (2021)

Gong Yoo from Squid Game's in this. What else should you know? This South Korean sci-fi mystery follows a crew of astronauts on a mission to an abandoned research facility on the moon. Their objective: a sample of an unknown substance for unclear purposes. Betrayal, government lies, and personal secrets send this addictive space journey into a tailspin.

Altered Carbon (2018-2020)

Altered Carbon is set in a cyberpunk world where human consciousnesses can be transferred into different structures. In season 1, Kovacs' story involves solving a murder, before he embarks on a quest to unravel his own lost love. However, the visual appeal of Altered Carbon reveals some of its benefits.

Sense8 (2015-2018)

Another story from The Matrix creators explores reality. Sense8 follows eight strangers from around the world who discover they are physically and emotionally connected. Unlike other characters, the "sensates" may also tap each other's skills when confronting a sinister organization hunting them down. This clever and sensual sci-fi drama will be released by Sense8.

Into the Night (2020)

This apocalyptic sci-fi from Belgium will probably turn you off from flying anytime soon. Into the Night sees a red-eye hijacked by a soldier who, along with the rest of the passengers, ends up following a horrific global event down on the ground. Can they keep the plane going long enough to take them to safety? That is why it should be enough to get you to experience this excellent, intense thriller.

Away (2020)

Hilary Swank is the key to Away's space drama, which stars Emma Green, a NASA astronaut and the commander of an expedition to Mars. Things get off to a rocky start, and Emma's international crew fill her with worries about her ability to command. Away is usually successful in completing an all-rounded journey with time between Earthbound drama and reliable entertainment above the stratosphere.

Archive 81 (2022)

Are you looking for cults and mysteries? Join the cast of Archive 81, which includes Mamoudou Athie, an archivist who takes a tour of the ancient world of filmmaking. He is then drawn into an investigation of a mysterious cult and a young lady who may or may not be dead. A supernatural thriller with horror, mystery, noir, and sci-fi infused into its creepy atmosphere.
