EXCLUSIVE: Mexico and Hispanic, a licensed showrunner, launched last year, and the company has announced its first steps.
Following Angel22, the company has collaborated with a singer and actress to develop an unscripted docuseries. The project will be co-produced with 2WS Films and Becky G, who plays a judge in MTV's Becoming A Popstar, will serve as an executive producer and will also appear in the series.
The label has taken over the production of Amazon's Mexican comedy series LOL: Last One Laughing. Leguizamo has executived the series, which stars and is now exec produced by Endemol Shine Boomdog.
The company is also developing a Latin American production hub for LOL that will be based in Mexico City and overseen by Leguizamo. Production has recently been completed on the show's third and fourth seasons.
Leguizamo has unveiled her work, including veteran unscripted producer Andrea Hulsz, who has been named Executive Director of Physical Production. Miguel Sanchez will serve as Director of Development, and Fernanda Ruiz will be responsible for development.
Later this month, the studio will construct its first offices and studio space in Mexico City's Polanco area. The studio, which was officially unveiled last September, is based both in Mexico City and at Banijay Americas' Los Angeles headquarters. It is primarily focused on developing and producing original content for broadcast, cable, and streamers in the Mexican and US Hispanic markets.
After we first announced the creation of Banijay Mexico & Hispanic late last year, we've got the start running, and I couldn't be happier about the huge amount of programming we have, including Becky G, and the incredible team that we have assembled, Leguizamo said. We are 100% committed to producing programs that will resonate with people of all ages.
