Vivarium (2019)

Chronicle of the Year (2012)

Remember that Dane DeHaan of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starred in this discovered footage sci-fi? He plays a friendless teen who develops telekinetic abilities. This is why it begins as a way to get fun and pull pranks before making an act that goes too far. Chronicle is a clever, documentary-style sci-fi actioner.

District 9 (2009)

The sci-fi actioner that put director Neill Blomkamp on the map. The hybrid found footage flick takes you right into the intense action of an alternative 1982, when an alien spaceship appears over Johannesburg, Africa. A unique, exciting, and somewhat political classic.

Prometheus (2012)

Yes, this is a prequel movie. Yes, this is the fifth segment in the Alien series. Yes, it's grandiose and its plot fails to do its stunning visuals justice. Prometheus also introduced us to David, who is also famous for his role as Michael Fassbender. However, the plot might not eventually make any sense, but there's no bearing on this sci-fi horror's entertainment value.

The Night of the Rings (2019)

This low-budget indie combines exceptional production qualities, excellent performances, and an inventive camerawork to tell the story of two teenagers in the 1950s in New Mexico. The intelligent pair investigate the potentially extraterrestrial origins of an obscure audio frequency.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet schufted along with his visual flair to a sci-fi fantasy before Amelie (co-directed by Marc Caro). The City of Lost Children follows an evil scientist who kidnaps children, believing their dreams are the driving force behind the disease.

Dredd, 2012.

Fans of Alex Garland will be familiar with a sci-fi actioner, which follows the eponymous judge, who covers everything from jury to executioner in a dystopic neighborhood. Dredd and his apprentice try to kill drug lord Ma-Ma, played by Lena Headey.
