Vivarium (2019)

It may frustrate a lot of viewers with its surreal aspects, but it's still a compelling film. A young couple discovers a hidden gem in a labyrinthine suburban neighborhood of identical houses. Despite trying to escape, they discover themselves adopting a mysterious baby.

Freaks (2018)

Emile Hirsch stars in this sci-fi drama about a father who keeps his 7-year-old daughter trapped in their house for her entire life. Chloe inevitably seeks the outdoors, which leads to unimaginable events and a run-in with a government government. An impressive work with a father-daughter relationship at its core.

The Chronicle of the Civil War

Remember that Dane DeHaan of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 played in this discovered footage sci-fi? He plays a friendless teen who develops telekinetic capabilities. What begins as a way to get fun and pull pranks results in an act that goes too far. Chronicle is a clever, documentary-style sci-fi actioner.

District 9 (2009)

The sci-fi scene that put filmmaker Neill Blomkamp on the map. The hybrid found footage scene brings you right into the intense action of an alternative 1982, when an alien spaceship comes over Johannesburg, Africa. A unique, exciting, and slightly political classic.

Prometheus (2012)

Yes, this is a prequel movie. Yes, this is the fifth installment in the Alien franchise. Yes, it's grandiose and its plot does not perform its stunning visuals justice. Prometheus unveiled the brilliant and unnerving android David, played by Michael Fassbender. It might not ultimately make any sense, but there's no taking away from this sci-fi horror's entertainment value.

The Night of the Day (2019)

This low-budget production studio has surprisingly high production expectations, impressive performances and imaginative camerawork to tell the story of two teenagers in New Mexico in the 1950s. The talented couple uncover the potential extraterrestrial patterns of a mysterious sound frequency.

The City of Lost Children (1995)

Jean-Pierre Jeunet reimagined his technique and visual skills into a sci-fi fantasy before Amelie (co-directed by Marc Caro). The City of Lost Children follows an evil scientist who kidnaps children, believing that their dreams are the foundation for preventing aging.

Black Box (2020)

This will try to fill the gap between those who missed Black Mirror. Follow a father who tries to rebuild his life after a car accident. He agrees to an experimental procedure that leads him to the darkest recesses of his mind.

Coherence (2013)

Coherence does not require a Budget-sized story to tell compelling stories. After a dinner party, friends notice strange events. And, again, Coherence finds the purpose of a true indie gem.

Dredd, 2012

Fans of Alex Garland will be familiar with a sci-fi actioner following the eponymous judge, who covers everything from jury to executioner in a darkened area. Dredd and his wife, Lena Headey, are in a bandwagon to protect the hero.

Infinity Chamber (2016)

Check. Low budget? Check. Travis Milloy's indie sci-fi romance consolidates its position in Google Search's quest for "best indie sci-fi gems." complex story focuses on a man who is imprisoned in an automated prison facility. This is a vital task.

A well-crafted, deliberate sci-fi that avoids harmful effects is a big shout. Theo James is a scientist who is passionate about making an AI as human as possible. His experiences are hidden, personal, and the archive is enthralled by a gentle eye on character.

The Terminator (1984)

Not much needs to be said about the first installment in the Terminator franchise. James Cameron's story reveals a cyborg assassin, who is supposedly born of a fever dream, to kill Sarah Connor, whose unborn son is destined to save mankind from the robot apocalypse.

Robocop (1987)

What type of RoboCop has not been seen yet, from Ready Player One to Community, the '80s classic has been used in everything from a police officer murdered to a crime-stopping rampage.

Predator (1987)

It appears that Arnold Schwarzenegger films are a feature on this list. Predator is a classic action thriller based on an elite paramilitary rescue team stalked by a technologically advanced alien.

Fly (1986)

Prime Video may charge you a bunch of iconic films on the 1980s, but The Fly is perhaps a remake of the 1958 film of the same name, with added gore and Jeff Goldblum. The David Cronenberg film has become a classic in its own right.

The Tomorrow War (2021)

It's difficult to leave The Tomorrow War off this list, because it's Prime Video's big sci-fi actioner with Chris Pratt. It follows a schoolteacher who is drafted into a war with aliens in the future. A simple to digestible screen that you can watch while viewing your phone.
