EXCLUSIVE: According to sources, Netflix has published the spec, which was written by Greg Weidman and Geoff Tock and will be directed by David F. Sandberg. Insiders claim the package included half a dozen studios and streamers, according to sources. The spec is now in the low seven-figure range.
Sandberg and James Wan have reunited in the package, which started in his career as a kid when Wan was selected to direct The Conjuring spin-off Annabelle: Creation. Along with Sandberg and Lotta Losten, Wan and Michael Clear will produce through their banner, including Sandberg and Lotta for Mangata, as well as Roy Lee for Vertigo.
The plot details are being kept under wraps other than the concept of a genre thriller.
After beginning his career with Annabelle: Creation, New Line was quick to turn to him for their big adaptation of Shazam! The success of that film led to the studio fast-tracking a sequel. Shazam!: Fury of the Gods is currently in post-production with Zachary Levi, who plays Helen Mirren and Rachel Zegler as they join forces.
The most recent producers on Star Trek: Section 31 have collaborated with Netflix on the feature In the Shadow of the Moon, directed by Jim Mickle, which was last autumn.
