Despite the fact that the Hornets beat the Indiana Pacers 43-39 this season, its third year in a row under which Borrego put its record at the test for the first time since 2015-16, according to Wojnarowski. The Hornets lost by 28 points in the play-in tournament, before falling to the Atlanta Hawks by 29 earlier this month.

Both postseason games saw Charlotte lose blowouts, highlighting both regular season win success and player development among Miles Bridges, LaMelo Ball, and previously Devonte Graham.

Borrego, a member of the Gregg Popovich coaching team, has gone 138-163 in four years as the Hornets' head coach. He had previously had one head coaching job during his career, and played 30 games as the interim head coach for the Orlando Magic in 2015.

Whomever takes over in Charlotte will be given the help of a team of gifted players, including All-Star quarterback LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, who made a significant move forward this season, and is being planned for a major payday in restricted free agency.
