Draft of the NFL in 2022: Would the Eagles use a high draft pick to take over as a top running back? ...

The Eagles may look to the receiver for another running back to join the team when they head out on the field to begin the 2022 season, and there are several options to choose from.

When NJ Advance Media spoke with an NFL Network analyst this week, he was asked who could be a fit for the Eagles, which was not being discussed a lot. Jeremiah also mentioned a Doak Walker Award, an honor given to the best running back in college football.

"I look at a guy like Kenneth Walker III," Jeremiah said. "We will see where he comes off the board, but selfishly, I'd like to see him compliment what you already have on campus with Miles Sanders. I think that gives you a pretty dynamic one-two punch."

Walker is an extremely powerful prospect. At Michigan State, he averaged 6.22 yards per carry, allowing him to pass 1,636 yards and 18 touchdown passes.

Walker was able to move between the tackles, which would come in handy when the Eagles use the outside zone running game. He is also capable of running the stretch plays on the outside zone, being patient enough to search for a scene to open before planting his foot and cutting upfield. However, Walker is still developing as a receiver, although he has to refine his trajectory.

Sanders, Walker, and Kenneth Gainwell would provide the Eagles with a range of backs, each putting something to the table. Walker would serve Howard as the first team to complete the season. However, Howard was under fire last season for a knee injury.

If a long-term agreement with Sanders was not reached, adding Walker would also offer the Eagles an insurance policy. Sanders is on course to join the last year of his rookie contract, and his reactions to the discussions are still waning.

Despite Sanders' departure, the two might become one of the best running back tandems in the league. Last season, the Eagles introduced some two-back sets, utilizing Sanders and Gainwell in their "speed" package. It might be difficult for linebackers to determine who the correct ball carrier was if the correct violations were carried out by all players involved in the game. This would result in one-on-one opportunities for DeVonta Smith or Quez Watkins.
