Police said a suspect is in court and faces murder after he allegedly confessed to killing a 31-year-old man in east Alabama.
According to witnesses, Christopher Avantae Summers, 32, of Valley, was allegedly told officers he shot Jarez Cytril Ricks, 31, according to Valley Police Chief Mike Reynolds.
Near 2:44pm, Valley officers discovered Ricks with two gunshot wounds to the chest. In the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Ricks was found wounded.
Police said Ricks died in the emergency room at the East Alabama Medical Center.
As he awaits a bond hearing, Summers was charged with murder after a formal interview with Valley police.
The purpose of the shooting was unknown.
At the time of the shooting, two guns and several shell casings were discovered.
Ricks' body is being sent to Montgomery for an autopsy.
