Gilbert Gottfried's last photo on Instagram before he died was of himself and Chris Rock with the caption, "Which is the worst crime? Chris Rock being physically assaulted or Chris Rock making a joke?"
Hence, Gottfried's last comment was on Will Smith slapping Rock at the 94th Academy Awards in late March. "Jada, I love you,' said Rock, adding, "G.I. Jane 2, can't wait to see it." Will then stormed the stage and slapped Rock.
In 2012, Gottfried wrote an opinion piece defending comedians entitled "If you don't want to hear an outrageous joke, don't listen."
In the letter, he said: "If a comedian tells a joke you find funny, you laugh. Or, if he tells a joke you do not find funny, you might go far beyond grunting or rolling your eyes. Finally, you wait for his next joke; if it's funny, then you laugh. At the worst, you can leave quietly."
"This is the way going to see a comedian has worked for centuries. Some comedians make nice jokes that you can tell to your kids. Some others use negative words they work "blue." If you don't want to hear a blue joke, you shouldn't go to a comedy club where a comedian who makes blue jokes is performing."
On Tuesday, Gottfried's family announced that they had passed away due to a long-term illness. He appeared in several films and on television. While he is known for his voice acting, he also voiced the parrot Lago in "Aladdin."
