KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- After starting pitcher Casey Mize's 10-day injury list, the Detroit Tigers have dropped.
While Mize is assessing his start, the Tigers are seeing it as a precautionary measure.
Outfielder Daz Cameron had been accompanying the team as a member of the taxi squad in the event that Robbie Grossman would be forced to leave the team.
Mize's absence will result in Tyler Alexander remaining in the starting rotation rather than moving to the bullpen when veteran Michael Pineda is activated.
Mize, who has 25 years old next month, has joined the Tigers as the No. 2 starter behind Eduardo Rodriguez, who has purchased free agent.
In 2021, Mize, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft, will field a 3.71 ERA in 150 1/3 innings for the Tigers.
Cameron, 25, was once one of the Tigers' outfield prospects after being acquired from the Houston Astros in the Justin Verlander trade in 2017. He has made 174 plate appearances at the big-league level in 2020 and 2021, ending behind Victor Reyes and Derek Hill in the roster battle to be the Tigers' reserve outfielder this spring.
The Tigers announced the move just before the first pitch of their game against the Royals on Friday night. Manager A.J. Hinch is expected to address the decision following the game.
