KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Outfielder Robbie Grossman and shortstop Javier Baez will miss their third consecutive start as the Detroit Tigers face the Kansas City Royals on Friday at Kauffman Stadium.
Grossman has been dealing with groin and hip stiffness since changing a muscle during Tuesday's game at Detroit. Baez has been scratched from the last two starts with a swollen right thumb. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch
Victor Reyes will play in the position of Grossman, while Harold Castro will play in the position of Baez.
Lefty Tarik Skubal is on the verge of defeating the Royals right-hander Brad Keller, who pitched six scoreless innings in his debut.
This offseason, Baez, 29, signed a six-year, $140 million deal with the Tigers.
He was at the center of the Tigers' first two seasons this season, with a and a. He also obstructed his thumb during Tuesday's game.
Overall Baez is hitting.316 (6-for-19) with a double, a home run, and four runs batted in in 2022. He has four strikeouts and one walk.
The Tigers are debating whether Grossman's injury is sufficient to warrant a stint on the injured list. Daz Cameron has been with the team as a member of the taxi squad. He may be activated if necessary.
